Kara and Lance McCullers, Jr. have been champions for the city of Houston since calling it home in 2015. Lance McCullers, Jr. is a starting pitcher for the Houston Astros. He was a 2017 All-Star and helped lead the Houston Astros to their 2017 and 2022 World Series Championship titles.
In September 2016, the Lance McCullers, Jr. Foundation was created by Lance and Kara to further support Houston’s homeless animal population. Through their foundation, they have supported many local rescues and organizations by funding more than $260,000 in weekly transports to receiving rescues in surrounding states, helping save nearly 83,000 shelter animals. The Foundation also sponsors training for rescue dogs to become life-saving service animals for veterans with PTSD through their partnership with K9’s for Warriors. Additionally, LMJF has provided more than $105,000 in medical grants for wounded and sick animals through their “Second Chance Fund” and works toward finding solutions to Houston’s overpopulation issues by promoting pet adoption and the importance of spay and neuter.
In addition to animals, Lance and Kara enjoy working directly with a number of other Houston charitable organizations, including the Sunshine Kids Foundation and Big Brothers Big Sisters. In 2019, Big Brothers, Big Sisters Houston honored the McCullers family for their consistent efforts to “Defend the Potential” of Houston-area kids through back-to-school events and thousands of in-kind donations for fundraising. Through their annual Team Up event, they have also helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Sunshine Kids Foundation. Additionally, they have seen the city of Houston through multiple natural disasters, providing more than $225,000 in disaster relief and supplies during Hurricane Harvey, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the devastating 2021 winter storm.
Lance and Kara are known for their immense passion for the city of Houston and are always willing and ready to help the city they call home.
