Gaynell DrexlerGaynell Floyd Drexler is an attorney-advocate and non-profit leader whose community engagement spans three decades. A native of Natchez, Mississippi, she earned a BA from Spelman College and a Juris Doctorate from Howard University School of Law. A member of the New York Bar, she practiced as a corporate associate with Schulte, Roth & Zabel in Manhattan for several years.

Gaynell has served a myriad of causes that impact, sustain, empower, and improve the lives of everyday Houstonians in areas spanning social and environmental justice, children’s rights, affordable housing, conservation, and the cultural arts. Since 2018, her advocacy-based practice has centered on building sustainable outcomes and stability for homeowner associations operating in marginalized communities susceptible to environmental crimes, blight and neglect.

Board service includes Buffalo Bayou Partnership (Chair Emeritus), Houston Habitat for Humanity (Chair Emeritus),  the Endowment for Houston Habitat for Humanity, the University Museum at Texas Southern University (Advisory), Houston Public Library Foundation, Lawndale Arts Center, Be A Resource for CPS, United Negro College Fund Pacific NW, Oregon Ballet Theater (Founding Trustee), and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, OR. (Pledging Trustee). Gaynell has chaired fundraising efforts for non-profits throughout Houston, including the Community Artists’ Collective, the Ensemble Theater, Houston Habitat, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the University Museum, the United Negro College Fund, Buffalo Bayou Partnership, and Feed the Soul Foundation.

Gaynell was named a Top 30 Influential Women of Houston by Vaskey Media Group in 2018; an ABC-13 Women of Distinction honoree in 2019; a Houston Chronicle Best Dressed honoree in 2021, recipient of the True Blue Game-Changer Award from the Houston Chapter of the National Alumni Association of Spelman College in 2019, recipient of the Houston Habitat for Humanity Carl Umland Award in 2022; a Houston Treasure in 2024, and a Woman of Substance in 2025. She is an alumnus of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. and an active member of the Houston Chapter of the Links, Inc.

She is a proud mother to children Austin, Elise and Adam; dog Camp, cats Tallulah, Rue and Cotton; and Max, a gregarious Amazon parrot.
