Employees Worldwide Choose the Top 50 Best Places to Work in 2022 and Houston Has One on the List!
During the past 24 months, our country, as well as the world, continues to recover from the consequences arising from a worldwide pandemic. Employees globally are demanding more options from their employers, such as expanded benefits, the ability to work from home, and a more serene balance between their work and family life. Companies were certainly listening to those working for them. Tech titans, robotics, software leaders, manufacturers, retailers, healthcare providers, grocery store chains, banks, real estate and consulting firms, defense companies and more saw the importance in supporting and keeping their workers happy—because as many know, a company is only as good as its team members.
Glassdoor, a popular online employment website, surveyed employees from around the world about their favorite place at which to work. They reviewed the star ratings (1-5 stars) given to the businesses and the pro/con comments submitted. The results were not all that surprising. As expected, technology companies, and especially those headquartered in California, were at the top of the list. California boasts 26 out of the “Top 50” and Technology captured 15 (12 in CA) spots worldwide, including Google (#7).
Our great city of Houston bagged one of the slots—Healthcare giant Houston Methodist, who last year celebrated a century of medical accomplishments, came in at number 48. Only one other hospital nationwide landed in this illustrious group-St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee (#49). Other Texas companies being celebrated in the top tier are Dallas’ Southwest Airlines (#30), San Antonio’s supermarket behemoth H-E-B (#33) and Plano’s manufacturing heavyweight Hilti North America (#35).
American corporations truly took the lead in this distinguished series and we should be proud that they heeded the suggestions of their workforce. Those decisions truly changed corporate culture during a difficult period and created a future for workplace success.
