  • One of our city’s charities raised a mammoth sum to help our underserved, abused and disadvantaged youth
  • Two of our citizens were made Ambassadors to foreign countries
  • A philanthropic couple has pledged to give away 95% of their wealth to make our city better
  • A non-profit partnered with a renowned hospital to create a clinic that has been named the best of its kind in the world
  • FIFA and World Cup Soccer have named Houston as one of its seven cities to host games next year
  • A mind-blowing jazz and supper club has launched in Montrose in the space of the former historic Tower Theatre
  • More than a dozen charities raised over $1 million with their fundraising efforts
  • Houston was chosen as the only U.S. city to receive the cultural and architectural landmark known as the Ismaili Center, which promises to be a beacon of Houston’s diversity to the world at large

    Congratulations Houston!

The ”Doc” is in the House!

What’s Up, Doc? I’ll tell you! There’s a new place in town. Where, you ask? In Montrose, in the space of the former historic 1938 Art Deco Tower Theatre. This new venture transforms the former space, which hosted Ella Fitzgerald, restaurants, and a video store, into a reimagined 11,000 sq. ft. marvel featuring a red-hot jazz venue, a five-star restaurant, and rentable space on one or both levels. The name on the door comes from San Antonio’s Pearl District and breathes new life into Lower Westheimer. Jazz pianist Brent “Doc” Watkins holds a Doctorate in Musical Arts from the University of Houston, so the Bayou City is already flowing through his veins and ten fingers as he entertains onstage performing on a $125,000 Steinway Grand Piano, $200,000 sound system and in front of a high-definition L-E-D screen that is a whopping 10 feet high and 20 feet wide! Doc’s Houston Jazz Club is already one of the largest jazz clubs in the nation! The Social Book partnered with them to host its 21st annual Houston Treasures Awards Gala in mid-December. Houston now truly has a “DOC” in the house!
