Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary’s “Reflections on Style” Luncheon, Fashion Show and Chic Boutique Raises “The Art of Fashion” to $1 million
A whopping $1 million was the end result of a luncheon, fashion show and four-day shopping experience to support the mission of the Salvation Army. The sold-out luncheon and fashion show (themed as “The Art of Fashion”) at River Oaks Country Club started things off, as 420 guests packed the ballroom.
Chairpersons Laurel Bashaw and Dodi Willingham led the way with valuable support from Chic Boutique co-chairs Maggie Austin and Pam Senglemann and Chic Boutique Showroom co-chairs Sarah Burchfield, Frances Villagomez-Howard and Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary (SAWA) President Judy Chong. Dorothy Nicholson, a longtime supporter, was honored and recognized for her generous assistance, contributions and commitment to SAWA and many other important community organizations.
Preparing for this multi-day event is no easy task. Auxiliary volunteers spent over eight months collecting new and gently used clothing and accessories. Designers featured in the fashion show and available for sale, at not only the Chic Boutique, but also for sale in the “pop-up” Chic Boutique Showroom, included Carolina Herrera, Valentino, Dior, Oscar de la Renta, and many more. For a $20 donation, the public was invited to The Chic Boutique Showroom on its first day, which was only open for two hours and raised more than $10,000. On the second day, and every day thereafter, the Showroom was open to the public at no charge, and the line to get inside had begun forming at 6:30 a.m. By the end of the fourth day, over 3,200 people had attended.
It’s obvious that the efforts of the volunteers, chairpersons, staff and supporters are not only a “reflection” of their “style,” but also their substance! Hats off to everyone involved!
