Mama’s Panama Pound Cake

Mama’s Panama Pound Cake

Ingredients:
1 lb. unsalted Butter or Margarine (4 sticks)
3 cups granulated sugar
5 eggs
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
3 cups Flour
1 dash salt
¼ tsp. baking soda
1 cup buttermilk
1 Bundt pan or Angel Food pan

Directions:
Preheat oven to 325°. Mix sugar and butter until thoroughly mixed. Add eggs one at a time, mixing after each addition. Beat for three minutes. Add vanilla and mix. Add 1 cup flour and 1/3 cup buttermilk and beat well. Repeat 2 more times until flour and buttermilk are finished.

Pour into greased and floured Bundt or Angel Food pan. Bake for one hour or until cake springs back. Let stand for fifteen minutes and remove from pan.

Drizzle glaze (recipe follows) over warm cake.

Mama’s Orange-Lemon Glaze

Ingredients:
1 cup granulated sugar
½ cup lemon juice
1 tbsp. Orange flavoring or Orange Liqueur

Directions:
Mix above ingredients and bring to a boil. Boil for one minute. Cool slightly and pour over warm cake.
