A Longhorn Legacy Evening Hooks Horns with an Energy “Big Wig”
CenterPoint Energy’s Government Affairs Director and the evening’s honoree, June Deadrick, brought together 250 guests, whose veins ran burnt orange and white, to Hotel ZaZa to enjoy the annual Texas Exes’ Longhorn Legacy Evening.
Ginger Cearley, President of The Houston Chapter of Texas Exes, the largest Chapter in the country, and event Chair Diane Cervenka were welcomed on stage by media personality Cyndy Garza Roberts. After a video called “What Starts Here Changes the World,” celebrating U.T., was played, Mayor Sylvester Turner addressed the crowd with uplifting remarks and presented the honoree with a Proclamation. U.T. Scholarship recipient Melissa Porras Panigua, a recent U.T. graduate living in Houston, shared her story about how receiving the honorarium positively impacted and gave her the impetus to change the world.
The gala, featuring a wonderful seated dinner, rubbing elbows with Longhorn star Vince Young and his wife Candice Johnson, a silent auction and jewelry pull, took in a tidy sum of $190,000, followed by guests rising to their feet to sing “The Eyes of Texas” before heading home! Hook ‘em Horns!
