An Evening of Good Works, Miracles and Prayers for a Brighter Future at Holocaust Museum LBJ Moral Courage Award Dinner
A crowd of 1,000 gladly gathered at Hilton Americas-Houston for the annual LBJ Moral Courage Award Dinner benefiting Holocaust Museum Houston. To signify the importance of this award, consider some of the past recipients receiving this accolade:Â Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (posthumously), President George W. Bush, Dr. Martin Luther King (posthumously), Elie Wiesel, Mia Farrow, U.S. Senator John McCain, Daniel Pearl (posthumously), U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, U.S. Senator Lloyd Bentsen, U.S. Senator Robert Dole, Steven Spielberg, President Dwight D. Eisenhower (posthumously), and many others.
Leading the charge in this much-celebrated fundraising effort were Event Chairs Stephanie and Frank Tsuru, Host Committee Chairs Heidi and David Gerger and Leisa Holland-Nelson Bowman, Honorary Chair Sue Smith and Honorary Vice Chairs Donna Fujimoto Cole, Nancy and Jack Dinerstein, Elaine Finger, Patti and Mike Morgan, Carol and David Neuberger, Jeri and Marc Shapiro, Ileana and Michael Treviño, Kay and The Honorable Fred Zeidman and VIP Reception Sponsors The Ira Mitzner and Riva Collins Families. Their combined support netted an impressive $1.3 million for the Museum.
An important segment of the gala, following the delicious Kosher meal, is an on-stage discussion between the evening’s honoree and a celebrity interviewer. Moderating this intriguing conversation was CNN anchor, chief political correspondent, and third-generation Holocaust survivor Dana Bash. Her moving dialogue with Ambassador Stuart E. Eizenstat, a Special Advisor serving under six U.S. administrations, and his partner Marion Ein Lewin, a child Holocaust survivor from the Netherlands, was both inspirational and timely. Their discourse covered topics of Eizenstat’s personal relationship with President Lyndon Johnson and Ein Lewin’s miraculous story of survival and their joint hopes for a future without prejudice and hate.
