An Epicurean Evening with Heartwarming Stories Were on the Menu at CanCare’s Annual Dinner
Cancer is hard, but it doesn’t have to be lonely, not in life or at a charity dinner. CanCare envisions a world where no one faces cancer alone. They provide hope and healing to the cancer community by ensuring anyone facing cancer can have a survivor by their side. With over 500 trained volunteers, this organization provides wonderful souls who walk alongside those facing cancer as they navigate treatment and the life changes that come with a cancer diagnosis.
CanCare CEO Darcie Wells shared their heartwarming story with the packed crowd at Houston’s esteemed eatery, Tony’s. Chairs Susan & Kirby Greteman and Mel Edwards & John Schlosser greeted the anxious guests eager to taste the delectable three-course menu created by Executive Chef Kate McLean and paired with fine wines selected by sommelier Scott Banks.
Schlosser, president of Kinder Morgan, a cancer survivor, and a CanCare recipient shared his heartfelt and personal cancer journey. He expressed that having a cancer survivor by your side makes all the difference in one’s healing and hope.
A wine raffle worth $6,000 and filled with 24 premium wines (compiled by the chairs) was a highly anticipated part of the evening. As the evening progressed to dessert, the staff at Tony’s roamed through the room with sparkling soufflés and presented them to the lucky winner, Mark Alsop. As the event ended, more than $100,000 was raised for the charity to continue its excellent work.
