Big Hats, Big Hearts and Safe Schools Were “High Up” at Crime Stoppers of Houston “Raise ‘Em Up for Texas” Gala

“Big Hats, Big Hearts” and smiling faces were on display at the annual Crime Stoppers of Houston “Raise ‘Em up for Texas” Gala. The event, chaired by dynamic couples Dr. Elizabeth McIngvale-Mackey & Matt Mackey and MichelleJonathan Zadok, as well as Strategic Chairs Vanessa Ames and Jordan Seff, was a resounding success. With the support of over 400 generous attendees, over $2 million was raised to combat crime and keep children across Texas safe through their Safe School Institute.

The program began with words of welcome pre-recorded by Houston Media Icon Dave Ward (also known in many circles as the “Voice of God”). Entertaining emcee and auctioneer Johnny “Bravo” Holloway took over the festivities and introduced a message from Houston Mayor John Whitmire, who extended thanks for helping keep our city safe. Crime Stoppers CEO Rania Mankarious then offered her insights on the organization’s mission and safety programs statewide.

Nobody’s Fool entertained guests throughout dinner, which was a “Raise ‘Em Up for Texas” treat! Famed Houston restaurateur Ben Berg and his Berg Hospitality donated a roomful of his prized prime steaks for guests to savor throughout the meal. As the crowd began to finish their sumptuous meal, auctioneer Johnny “Bravo” began the thrilling live auction, which was followed by special guest Seven “Shamir” Francis, who shared his heartfelt gratitude for Crime Stoppers and their ability to provide positive messaging and resources to help them make safer choices in their lives.

Rania Mankarious returned to stage to continue the evening by introducing the McIngvale Family Humanitarian Award, named for Houston’s famous “furniture family,” who has supported the community during times of crisis for years and is a big supporter of the charity’s work. This year’s honoree was the Board of Trustees Chairman of the John M. O’Quinn Foundation, Rob Wilson. A video announcing Crime Stoppers’ 2025 Million for Million campaign, whose goal is to reach one million students with safety resources, was displayed on the screens to great applause. Auctioneer Johnny “Bravo” then led the Paddles Up call for donations, resulting in an additional amount of $500,000 raised. Famed Academy Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey celebrated this accomplishment with a special video message tribute.

Everyone and everything was “Raised Up” all evening for this beautiful Houston and Texas cause!
