Burnt Orange and Boots Led to a Record-Breaking $325,000 for Texas Exes Gala
The University of Texas at Austin, Texas Exes Houston Chapter brought out the burnt orange and boots and a crowd of 300 Longhorn supporters to honor Texas Exes Susie and Skip McGee. Aubrey Maale, Event Chair and Texas Exes President, and Chair Tawnya Bell were all smiles as the efforts of everyone involved resulted in a monumental achievement—a record-breaking $325,000 raised to be given to scholarship recipients, a testament to the unwavering support of the organization.
The attendees, filled with anticipation, were led into the River Oaks Country Club ballroom by the spirited sounds of the Longhorn Alumni Band. Media personality Cyndy Garza Roberts was on hand to shout out a warm Longhorn welcome, adding to the excitement. A tribute video titled “What Starts Here Changes the World” poignantly reminded the crowd of the charity’s ongoing impact.
Scholarship recipients Ryan Karkowsky and Corey’L Sams, UT students and 40 Acres Scholarship recipients, proudly shared their stories about the scholarships and how UT has impacted their lives.
After a sumptuous meal and an evening filled with “Longhorn” camaraderie, the guests put their “Horns Up” as they joined together to sing “The Eyes of Texas” before departing.
