An Inaugural Brunch and Shopping Boutique Brought “Besties” Together For A Shelter for Cancer Families
Over 230 excited “Bestie Brunch” attendees gathered at River Oaks Country Club for a day of brunch, shopping from 16 exclusive boutique vendors, and hearing comedian, actress and author Caitlin Brodnick speak about her preventative breast cancer journey and book Dangerous Boobies: Breaking up with My Time-Bomb Breasts.
This charming inaugural event raised over $150,000 to support A Shelter for Cancer Families (ASCF). Founded in 2001 by Missy Amschwand Bellinger, ASCF has provided more than 25,000 nights of free, short-term housing for cancer families, resulting in roughly $700,000 in cost savings to cancer families each year. This local non-profit was the first organization to provide such services free of charge to families regardless of their age, cancer type, or treatment status and remains the only Houston organization providing these services.
The shopping boutiques were a sell-out within short order and arrived from cities throughout the U.S. Aloha Marina came from Austin, KREWE from New Orleans and BUGGY from New York. Some vendors returning included The Avenue by Lyndsey Zorich, Moreau Paris and Christy Lynn. The men were also included, as Paris Texas Apparel Company set up shop to handle their shopping needs. In addition, all event booths proudly donated a portion of their proceeds to the organization.
Congratulations to everyone involved in this organization and those who lent their time and talents to make this event memorable.
