A New York Times Best-Selling Author “Waved Glitter” All Over the 24th Houston Hospice Butterfly Luncheon

New York Times best-selling author Alua Arthur was welcomed by a crowd of 200 at The Junior League for the 24th Houston Hospice Butterfly Luncheon. The Butterfly Program cares for the Hospice’s youngest and most vulnerable patients. Chairing the event was Monica Hampton, whose son, Jake, was a patient in the program.

Aida Matic, CFRE, Vice President of Philanthropy and Community Engagement at Houston Hospice, was quoted as saying, “Volunteers are the heart of our hospice organization. Their efforts touch every aspect of Houston Hospice and they are integral to the services we provide patients and families.” Volunteers accepting accolades at the luncheon were Josepha O’Brien, Patti Roades, Pat Mosier and Norma Echegoyen-Lima.

Kindly handling emcee duties was Channel 13 anchor Gina Gaston Elie, who introduced the novelist as mentioned above.  Gina interviewed Alua Arthur, who shared her philosophy on how preparing for death can lead to a better and more fulfilling life. Her novel Glitter Wave, as well as her memoir, “Briefly Perfectly Human: Making an Authentic Life by Getting Real About the End were both well received. Al Gatmaitan, board chair of Houston Hospice, said, “We are grateful for the positive way Alua uses her platform to raise awareness about all things concerning end-of-life. Her message is an inspiration.”

As always, another moving event for this amazing non-profit organization, which has provided quality, end-of-life health care to generations of families in Southeast Texas for more than 45 years.
