Rufus and Yvonne Cormier, M.D. both grew up in Beaumont and have resided in Houston since 1974 when Rufus joined the law firm of Baker Botts. In addition to their respective careers in law and medicine, both are involved in numerous civic, philanthropic and educational activities.

Yvonne is an anesthesiologist at Hermann Memorial City Hospital and the Heights Eye Surgery Center. She serves on the Advisory Boards of the Discovery Green Conservancy, the Sheldon Park Project and the Rutherford B. Yates Museum. She is a member of the Houston Chapter of Links, for which she will co-chair the 2008 Scholarship Gala. She has also served on the Boards of Houston Ballet, Museum of Fine Arts, Society for the Performing Arts, Glassell School, Bayou Bend, Junior League and March of Dimes. She was recognized by Mayor Bob Lanier as “The Playground Lady” for her work as Chairman of the Herman Park renovation of the “Playground for All Children,” a favorite project of her membership on Houston’s Parks Board. She was named a “Woman of Distinction” by the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation and received the 2006 Motherhood Lifetime Achievement Award from Houston Can Academy and the GIA Award. In 2004 and 2006, she was named to the Houston Chronicle’s Best Dressed List, which benefits the March of Dimes.

Prior to joining Baker Botts, Rufus served as Special Assistant to John Doar, Counsel to the House Judiciary Committee for the Nixon Impeachment Inquiry. He currently serves as a member of the Board of the Memorial Herman Healthcare System, the Board of Visitors of the M.D. Andersen Cancer Center, and the Advisory Boards of the Center for Houston’s Future and Imprint. He has been selected by the Texas Jaycees as an Outstanding Young Texan, by Community Partners as a Father of the Year Honoree, by the National Conference for Community and Justice as a recipient of its Humanitarian Award, by the Anti-Defamation League as recipient of its Karen H. Susman Jurisprudence Award. He was featured by Texas Monthly and Law and Politics magazines as a Texas Super Lawyer and is listed in The Best Lawyers in America.

Yvonne and Rufus have three children: Michelle, an attorney; Geoffrey, a risk management analyst; and Claire, a student at Stanford University.
