Three Houston Furniture Families Honored at The Furniture Bank Gala

It’s hard to comprehend—300,000 children are estimated to be sleeping on the floor every night in the Greater Houston area. The Furniture Bank Gala—“No Kids on the Floor”—is determined to erase that statistic by providing the essential furniture necessary for family life. That evening, inside the ballroom at River Oaks Country Club, the focus was on providing beds to kids in Houston who are sleeping on the floor. The success of chairpersons Francie Willis and Bernie Falco and their 360 supporters was applauded at the end of the evening for the over $275,000 raised.

The Furniture Bank, a beacon of hope for the underprivileged, was originally conceived by local furniture icon Jodie Hoffer 32 years ago. Alongside the Fingers and the Wolffs, these families have made a significant and enduring impact on the lives of many. The event was a perfect opportunity to recognize the immense and long-standing contributions of Hoffer Furniture/The Hoffer Family, Finger Furniture/The Finger Family, and Star Furniture/The Wolff Family. These families, who are still actively involved with the organization, continue to inspire us with their unwavering dedication.

The evening’s festivities were led by Channel 2 anchor Khambrel Marshall, who not only served as the emcee but also conducted the live auction and appeal, raising thousands more for The Furniture Bank. Anita Carman, respected author and founder of Inspire Women, shared a touching invocation and, afterward, recounted how Jodie Hoffer had provided furniture for her organization years before, enabling her to help thousands of women. His contributions, along with many others, underscore the diverse and widespread support for The Furniture Bank.

As they do for many organizations in need, H-E-B provided floral centerpiece arrangements for each table. Francisco + Co. produced another stellar event, raising much-needed funds. It was a heartfelt night for a cause close to the hearts of many! We salute you!
