An Afternoon of Sharing, Caring and Faces of Love at Sixth CanCare HOPE Survivorship Luncheon

For thirty-five years, the motto for the CanCare organization has been “A Survivor by your side.” This beautiful organization lives this motto. The CanCare team matches those newly diagnosed with cancer and their caregivers with highly trained survivors to walk alongside them during the cancer journey. Four hundred attendees witnessed the charity’s successes at the sixth HOPE Survivorship Luncheon, chaired by Michele Leal Farah and Tony Bradfield. Five previous chairpersons, including Jordan Seff, Kelley Lubanko, Stephanie Tsuru, Phoebe and Bobby Tudor, Donna and Norman Lewis and Honorary Chair Frank Tsuru, were in attendance to share the joy and compassion of the afternoon, which raised more than $350,000.

Pre-luncheon, Tenenbaum Jewelers sponsored a raffle, with the winner given the opportunity to select from multiple pieces of jewelry and Astros Diamond Club seats. Giving Tree gift cards were quickly purchased and sold out. Both generated more needed funds for the organization to continue its work.

Excited attendees were welcomed by emcee Lisa Malosky, who introduced Darcie Wells, President and CEO of CanCare. Darcie introduced her new bestselling book, Face of Cancer: A Collection of Powerful and Uplifting Stories from Cancer Survivors, Caregivers, and Healthcare Professionals. The stories serve as a beacon of hope in that crucial moment, providing a tangible connection to CanCare’s services and underscoring its mission.

Receiving accolades were the Mir Family. Healthcare honoree and featured speaker was Dr. Katy Rezvani. The corporate honoree was JPMorgan Chase, whose representatives, Nick Adam and Meredith Beaupre, accepted on their behalf.

In an on-stage setting, emcee Lisa Malosky interviewed Dr. Rezvani, who discussed her remarkable research and announced new breakthroughs on the path to ending cancer.

In a poignant moment, the traditional Candle Lighting ceremony filled the room with candles held by guests in honor of loved ones impacted by cancer and was followed by a testimonial by Keith Saathoff, leading to an appeal that allowed almost every guest to make donations to support.

The successful luncheon ended with the winner of the raffle and unending applause for next year’s HOPE Survivorship Luncheon Chair, Kristy Bradshaw.
