Dec My Room’s Fifth Annual “Kick Up Your Boots for Kids” Was a “Boot Scootin’” Good Time!

It began fifteen years ago, when the child of a family friend was going to be in the Texas Children’s Hospital for an extended stay and would be away from his family and friends. Mother/daughter duo Susan Plank and Kendall Plank decided to find out this young boy’s hobbies, interests, favorite colors and other thrills in life and decorate his room in that ambiance, so his time there would be sparked with joy, and his mind would be eased during the “down” moments of being confined to a hospital room for treatment and tests. The success of their teamwork for this one child’s happiness and comfort segued into decorating hospital rooms for many other sick children and Dec My Room was born!

The organization’s 5th annual Kick Up Your Boots for Kids was held recently at House of Blues with multi-platinum country artist Joe Nichols as the headliner. Chaired by Stacey & Al Lindseth and Tori Kuykendall, the evening was a huge success thanks to the support from the 260 excited guests. Dynamic auctioneer Johnny “Bravo” Holloway brought out the booming voice as he auctioned off seven live “featured” packages, which included a 3-day management hunt at Sycamore Springs Ranch in Kerrville with Kendall Plank (which sold 3 times), Lugano Diamond Earrings, a Joe Nichols signed guitar, dinner with whiskey pairing for 8 at Federal American Grill and more. The event’s live auction segment brought in $90,000, which was added to the overall total. At the event’s completion, $310,000 had been raised to support the charity’s valuable and healing work.

Sponsors “kicking up their boots” for this worthwhile cause were:  The Plank Companies, W.T. Byler, Cornerstone Documents, First American Title, Federal Grill, Western Extrusions, JLL Capital Markets, MSC Earthwork, Doggett Ford and Northern Trust.

Ideas are always wonderful, but when you can put your ideas into action, they become legendary. Such is the case with Dec My Room. In the past 15 years, this organization has grown to 79 hospitals around the world and their goal of 100 hospitals by year-end is very reachable for the remarkable people who lend their time and talents to this effort.

Socially present (not previously mentioned):  Laurie and Tracy Krohn, Mike Plank, Kristina Somerville, Denise and Monte Tinkham, Stacey and Al Lindseth, Brittney and Max Tribble and Matt Brice
