Children’s Museum of Houston Spring Golf Classic Honors the Memory of Longtime Supporter Randy Allen

The memory of longtime Children’s Museum of Houston supporter Randy Allen was front and center at the annual Randy Allen Spring Golf Classic, held at Memorial Park Golf Course. This year’s event, chaired by Richard Hellmann and John Thompson, was a resounding success, with thirty-two teams and 100 attendees participating in a thrilling Florida-style scramble tournament. The event raised an impressive $188,000, a significant contribution that will greatly support the Museum’s mission.

Following in his father’s Museum-supportive footsteps, Randy Allen, who passed away in 2019 after a long battle with cancer, led the Museum for 25 years as a member of the executive committee, board, and advisory board. He founded the first golf tournament the organization ever hosted. His family, including mother Nancy Allen, wife Laurie, brothers Eddie and Wilson Allen, daughters Morgan Neal (and husband Cameron Neal) and Kendall Strait, and his grandson, were all on hand to celebrate the festivities and honor his legacy.

The day-long tournament, filled with challenges to receive awards for Best Day on the Green, Best Team Net Scores, “Closest to the Pin,” and Hole-in-One (sponsored by LEXUS), was greeted with lively competition and a shared commitment to the organization. Jonathan Sloan, Chris Calderwood, Patrick Connelly and Johnny McCormack were the team winners for first place overall. Wally Reid, Jason Tessler, Zach Springer and Chase Belew earned the best team net scores.  Individual winners of the “Closest to the Pin” contest were Diane Modesett and Wally Reid.
