Candles Light the Way for Many at CanCare 30th HOPE Survivorship Luncheon

360 guests lit candles to support CanCare‘s work as they celebrated its 30th Annual HOPE Survivorship Luncheon at River Oaks Country Club. This ceremony, near the end of the program, gives attendees a chance to light candles in memory of loved ones impacted by cancer. Their names are spoken by those at each table as the candles are illuminated. The moment comes when the ballroom’s lights are dimmed and the room is awash in flickering lights—an unforgettable minute of memories.

Amidst the applause, Chairs Phoebe and Bobby Tudor, Honorary Chairs Stephanie and Frank Tsuru, CanCare President and CEO Darcie Wells, Honorees Amerapex, Bashar and Brigitte Kalai, Sippi Khurana M.D. and Vijay Goradia took their well-deserved bows. The event was a resounding success, with over $400,000 raised. This significant sum will enable the organization to continue its vital mission of providing support to those newly diagnosed with cancer and their caregivers, matching them with highly trained survivors to guide them on their cancer journey.

Channel 13 anchor Gina Gaston, in her role as emcee, welcomed guests and conducted a one-to-one onstage interview with Dr. Peter Pisters, President of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Pisters shared the latest breakthroughs in cancer treatment, providing a valuable and insightful update. Gaston also expressed gratitude to H-E-B for their donation of table centerpiece arrangements, which featured sunflowers, a symbol of hope.
