“Journeys of the Heart”—2022 Heart Ball

Not one of the 500 black-tied guests sat in “coach” at the 2022 Heart Ball, held at Hilton Americas-Houston. It was first-class all the way! Captained by Chairs Joanne Houck and Tim Singletary and honoring Ann & Peter Fluor, Lacey & Matt Goossen and EY, the “treasure take” at evening’s end brought in more than $2.3 million to contribute to the AHA’s mission.

KPRC’s Khambrel Marshall served as emcee, and after welcoming guests on this “journey,” introduced American Heart Association Houston Division Senior Vice President and Executive Director Mel Edwards, who spoke from the heart about the amazing strides occurring at AHA and introduced the honorees to a standing ovation.

One never knows what may move an individual or couple to chair an event, allow themselves to be honored, or lend their names as an honorary chair, but chairperson Tim Singletary had a real-life reason for signing up:  this past August, while golfing at Memorial Park Golf Range, Tim had a cardiac event—a heart journey of his own so to speak, and that underscores that we are all on our own “journey of the heart.”

After a “world-class” dinner, the live auction began with amazing packages, which included a Hawaiian getaway at the Waldorf Astoria for six, trips to Istanbul and Cappadocia, and a war of the bid paddles occurred over a 100-point case of wine.

Wine auction co-chairs Russ Labrasca (honored for his 10 years of service) and April & Dr. Jorge Salazar, along with their committee, curated an extensive wine auction, with wines all rated above 95 points. Both the live and wine auctions contributed greatly to the overall total raised.

The great news about this “voyage” was that attendees were not required to check or bring their baggage on board. They traveled “light” and light-up balloons were gifted to them as they checked in. Those glowing features added to the evening’s ambiance. Congratulations to all involved in this coronary excursion!

Socially present (not previously mentioned):  Molly and Jim Crownover, Randa and K.C. Weiner, Debbie and Jack B. Moore, Dr. Doug Lawson, April and Dr. Jorge Salazar, Judy and Russ Labrasca, Suzie Kupiec and James Dyer, Rachel and Tim Dash, Teresa and José Ivo, Lisa and Jerry Simon, Lydia Davies and Andrew Johnson and John Schlosser.
