Miracles of the Mission Continues to Work Miracles!

No one could stay bleary-eyed at The Mission of Yahweh Miracles of The Mission early morning breakfast, when comedienne Michael Jr. appeared on stage at the Junior League. What a wake-up call! What better way to rouse the near 200 guests in attendance quicker than Michael Jr., who tours the country using comedy to inspire audiences to find their purpose and to live a life to fulfill that purpose. He has brought laughter to “The Tonight Show” on NBC, “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and “Comedy Central.” He’s starring in the movie Selfie Dad, which is available now on streaming platforms; and he has just created a course that teaches people about life—in a humorous way! His new book, “Funny How Life Works,” is in bookstores now; and his motivating comedy specials, Laughing on Purpose and More Than Funny are available on DVD.

What held the whole room captive, besides Michael Jr.’s impeccable humor, were his revelations of visits to jails to speak to inmates, visits to homeless shelters to bring humor to the homeless, and an endearing recounting of a recent surprise visit to a family of 14 as he presented them with a new SUV.

After Richard Hill, Executive Director, recognized major donors and dignitaries, Salient Partners executive, Greg Reid relayed some of the many miracles that have occurred at The Mission since it was created 60 years ago. In 1961, Helen Gay received a vision from God telling her to feed the hungry and house those in need of safe shelter. She immediately quit her job as a hairdresser and answered His call. Before long, Sister Gay, as she came to be known, had adopted 24 children. What started with one little shotgun house has now become a 12-building campus that not only houses over 400 women and children each year but serves over 4,000 meals per month and feeds over 500 families in the community. The Mission now houses over 120 women and children at full capacity. The need for an additional dormitory is an urgent one.

Stacy Henton left not a dry eye in the ballroom as she shared her journey from total addiction to heroin to finding The Mission and a new, productive life. As her three beautiful children, Deacon, Dawson and Presley and fiancée, Daniel McGraw, joined her on stage, she was overwhelmed by the standing ovation she received from the awed audience.

Attendees were off to explore the rest of their day at 9:15 having laughed, cried and having been buoyed by the fact that they had contributed to The Miracle of The Mission and the net result of $108,000 to benefit homeless women and children at The Mission of Yahweh!
