14 Years, 53 Honorees, almost $5 million-Men of Distinction Luncheon Shines Once Again

Once again, River Oaks Country Club was the hot spot, as the Men of Distinction committee unveiled its 2020 honorees at their 14th annual luncheon. This luncheon was originally set for May, 2020 but as with almost every other event, issues with COVID required several reschedules over the last 18 months.

Presenting sponsors Steak 48 and Tenenbaum Jewelers, luncheon chairman Michael Mithoff, and the Men of Distinction committee welcomed guests to this highly anticipated gathering.

ABC Channel 13’s Tom Abrahams, Master of Ceremonies, “masterfully” kept the program lively but intimate, and as always, on-time! Reverend Mary Gracely delivered the solemn and very moving invocation.

Honorees for 2020 are:  John “Scotty” Arnoldy, Kent Osborne, M.D., Gary Petersen and Jesse Tutor. Each honoree was genuinely moved, spoke about their life and how their respective roads led them here, but also humbly stated that anyone in the audience could just as easily be on stage accepting this award.

The Men of Distinction Steering Committee members are:  Harry Mach, Jr., Tony Gracely, David Wuthrich, Scott Evans, Steve Mach, Butch Mach, Ed McMahon, Michael Mithoff, Danny Klaes, Philip Bahr, Bret Aldridge, John Eads, Billy McCartney, Jesse Tutor, Scott Schwinger, Tracy Dieterich, Joe Cleary, Dr. Devinder Bhatia, Tony Bradfield, Oliver Badgio and Stephen Lewis.

Proceeds raised for medical research in the Texas Medical Center, exceeding $375,000, were distributed in three (3) $100,000 unrestricted grants to Dr. David Sandberg at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth, Dr. Amy Hair and Dr. Geoffrey Preidis at Texas Children’s Hospital and Dr. Branko Cuglievan Gulman at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

This annual event releases 100% of the dollars raised and is assisted with additional support and partial sponsorship from:  Flowers by Nino, Let It Fly Events, Gittings and EB, Inc., who have given their time and talents to this annual event over this almost decade and a half.

Socially present were:  David Baggett, Dr. Devinder Bhatia, Jeff Bagwell, Betty Tutor, Cora Sue and Harry Mach, Denise Castillo-Rhodes and Robert Rhodes, Oliver Badgio, David Trice, Dale McMullen, Tony Gracely, John Havens, Danny Klaes, George Dodge, Keith and Alice Mosing, Jim and Whitney Crane, Molly and Jim Crownover, John and Leigh Anne Raymond, Dr. Bud Frazier, Bobby and Phoebe Tudor, Steve and Joella Mach, John Rydman, Kirby Hocutt, Melissa and Mia Mithoff, Richard and Ginni Mithoff, Jana Arnoldy, Jason and Lindley Arnoldy, Susan and Dick Hansen, Honorable Bill King, Frann Lichtenstein, Leisa Holland Nelson and Bob Bowman, Sami Shbeeb and Stephanie Vazquez, Tenenbaum’s Daniel Irion, Kirk Kveton, Christine Johnson and Jeff Henry.
